Marshall Grant discusses his book I Was There When It Happened, My Life With Johnny Cash
This free program is sponsored by Starkville Reads.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
What better way to kick off a day celebrating the life of Johnny Cash than listening to Marshall Grant read from his book I Was There When It Happened, My Life With Johnny Cash? Marshall Grant played Bass and served as road manager and stage manager for Johnny Cash from the beginning until 1980. Along with Luther Perkin’s, the original Tennessee Two, backed Johnny Cash and developed the legendary boom-chicka-boom sound.
More importantly, Marshall was there to see his friend unravel, and stood by him as he pieced himself back together. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the man that lived through the best and the worst, forging a friendship that lasted until Johnny’s dying day.
“(I)n this book you’ll find out all you ever need to know about the Man in Black from the Man in Back—Marshall Grant, the man who stood beside John on and off stage for decades.” —The Statler Brothers
